Surgical First Assistant Location: Midland, MI Agency: Cynet Health Pay: $2,238 per week Shift Information: Days - 4 days x 10 hours Contract Duration: 6 Weeks Start Date: 2/9/2026 About the Position Job Title: Certified Surgical First Assist Profession: Surgical First Assist Specialty: Operating Room Duration: 6 Months Shift: 6:30 AM - 5:00 PM Hours per Shift: 10 Experience: 2 Years of Certified Surgical First Assistant Experience License: Active Certification through National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or American Board of Surgical Assistants (ABSA) Certifications: Active American Heart Association BLS Must-Have: - Skills checklist, current to 1 year, pertinent to the specialty (Certified Surgical First Assist) - 2 Supervisory Reference Forms completed within the last two years Description: This position prepares the surgical suite for procedures. It involves assisting in gathering equipment, instruments, and supplies necessary for surgery. The candidate ensures all supplies and equipment are available and in working condition. Assistance is provided to the surgeon in the care of the patient during the operation. Responsibilities include providing exposure, aiding in hemostasis, closure, and other technical functions. Duties also involve proper draping, retracting, suctioning, sponging, suturing, tissue handling, and cautery techniques. The assistant applies appropriate dressing material specific to each procedure. Collaboration with the operating room team is essential for patient care. Knowledge of surgical procedures, anatomy, physiology, and operative techniques related to specific procedures is necessary. The candidate must ensure all necessary supplies, equipment, or instruments are available and confirmed with the nurse and surgical technologist. The assistant assists the physician with proper positioning, draping, retracting, suctioning, sponging, tissue handling, cautery techniques, stapling devices, and suturing.
