In this role, you will design, develop and optimize fasteners and joints for automotive and commercial electric vehicle traction inverter, LV inverter, DC/DC converter, and PDU products, which comply with customer specifications and applicable regulatory standards (SAE, UL, ISO, Automotive OEM, etc.).Making what matters work at Eaton takes the passion of every employee around the world. It's where bold, bright professionals like you can reach your full potential-and where you can help us reach ours.In This Function You Will* Support the project team leads on all fastener and joint related topics.* Lead and drive to completion the root cause analysis activities related fastener and joint failures during prototype testing, DV and PV testing.* Innovate low cost, reliable fastener and joint designs for pursuit business and next generation products.* Analyze simulation models to predict structural, fatigue, vibration, thermal, and CFD performance through all joints in the assembly.* Prepare for and lead in formal and informal fastener and joint design review activities with your peers across the eMobility team.* Coordinate product test plans for validating fastener and joint designs and work closely with technicians or outside lab resources to implement and review testing activities* Interface with and provide fastener and joint related technical support for customers, plant, quality, and supplier personnel.* Operate and design within industry standards (SAE, ISO, MIL, & ISO IATF 16949)* Work and cooperate with team members in the US, India, and China to execute new product designs.* Integrate Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance (GD&T), Design For Six Sigma tools and approaches, engineering simulation & modeling software, and phase-gate development processes for new products in development.* Identify all failure modes related to fastener and joint design and implement preventative measures to mitigate the risk.* Implement DRBFM methodology in making fastener and joint related design changes.When we embrace the different ideas, perspectives and backgrounds that make each of us unique, we - as individuals and as a company - are stronger.Required (Basic) Qualifications* Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution required * Minimum seven (7) years of experience in fastener and joint product development * Minimum two (2) years of experience in computer simulation and modeling software (CFD, stress, thermal, dynamics, tolerance, etc.) as well as 3D CAD / solid modeling software* Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship, now or in the future.* No relocation benefit is being offered for this role. All candidates considered must live within 50 miles of Southfield, MI. Active Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation. Preferred Qualifications* Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution. * Minimum 2 year of experience with power electronics.* Automotive background with a Tier 1 supplier.* Experience in CREO 4.0 is preferred, design experience in CAD required.* Experience with Automotive industry OEM requirements.* History of developing new joint designs and developing them to production.* History of optimizing existing joint designs.* Strong understanding of common joint material properties and behaviors including Copper, Aluminum and Steel.* Strong understanding of common joint material compatibility.* Strong understanding of screw industry standards.* Experience in developing reliable fastening methods for high current busbars* Experience in the important design variables and material properties of injection molded engineering plastics.* Experience in the important design variables and material properties of diecast aluminum parts.* Experience in the important design variables and material properties of stamped metal parts.* Ability to generate tests and test plans to sufficiently validate product designs required.* Experience working knowledge of various fastener and joint related commodities, cost drivers, and manufacturing techniques.* Individual must be capable of writing technical documents such as UL & ISO procedures, test reports, and patent disclosures.* Must be team oriented, with excellent interpersonal skills and effective communication.* Desire to mentor others and teach young team members.We are committed to ensuring equal employment opportunities for all job applicants and employees.
