Job Description:
Summary: Staff designated at Dickinson Wright PLLC (“the Firm”)
as Litigation Docketing Specialists are responsible for managing
and maintaining the docketing system of the Firm. This role
involves tracking all litigation deadlines, filing dates, and court
appearances to ensure compliance with court rules and procedures.
The Specialist will work closely with attorneys, paralegals, and
other legal operations staff to provide accurate and timely
information regarding case timelines and deadlines. Essential
Duties and Responsibilities: The essential duties and
responsibilities of staff designated as Litigation Docketing
Specialists include, but are not limited to: Docket Management:
Monitor and update the docketing system with all incoming pleadings
and other litigation-related materials. Analyze legal documents to
determine pertinent dates and deadlines and enter them into the
docketing system with precision. Generate docket reports and
distribute them to attorneys and legal staff to ensure awareness of
upcoming deadlines and court dates. Compliance and Coordination:
Ensure compliance with all jurisdictional rules and court
procedures related to docketing and calendaring. Coordinate with
attorneys and paralegals to confirm that all deadlines are met and
assist with the prioritization of case work based on docket
schedules. Communication: Communicate regularly with legal staff
regarding changes to court rules, docketing procedures, and updates
on case statuses. Respond to inquiries from attorneys and staff
regarding docketing information and provide clarification on docket
entries as necessary. Document Management: Assist with the
electronic filing of court documents and maintain organized records
of all filings and communications. Provide support in the retrieval
of documents and case files as needed for case preparation and
court proceedings. Quality Control: Perform regular audits of the
docketing system to ensure accuracy and completeness of the data.
Identify and resolve discrepancies in the docketing system and
suggest improvements to enhance efficiency and reliability.
Qualifications, Skills and Abilities Required: Litigation Docketing
Specialist must: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a
legal or administrative field. Minimum of two years of experience
in a docketing role within a law firm or legal department, with a
focus on litigation. Proficiency with docketing software and case
management systems (e.g., CoreRelate, Court Alert or similar
platforms), as well as a strong understanding of electronic court
filing procedures. Familiarity with federal, state, and local court
rules and calendar management. Excellent attention to detail and
the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously.
Strong organizational and communication skills, both written and
verbal. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in
a fast-paced environment. Working Conditions: Normal law office
environment with little exposure to noise, dust, temperature. The
