Lawrence Technological University, a national university, renowned for its "theory and practice" mode of education is seeking a visionary and innovative founding Program Director of the Physician Assistant Program, to be launched in 2022. The PA program, along with the Nursing program will be at the forefront of a growing emphasis on allied health sciences at LTU.

POSITION: The Director of the Physician Assistant Program reports to the Dean, College of Arts and Sciences where he/she is the chief PA programs' academic officer. The Director's primary responsibility is to advance the mission of the program, to develop a vision and the strategic steps necessary to achieve that vision.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Director of the Physician Assistant Program reports to the Dean, College of Arts and Sciences where he/she is the chief PA programs' academic officer. The director is responsible for the organization, administration and management of the academic and fiscal aspects of the program including the hiring of faculty and staff. The director will lead the accreditation process required by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). He/she will serve as a liaison between LTU and Ascension Health Providence. The Director is an eleven-month, administrative position in the College of Arts and Sciences. Additional key responsibilities of the position are managing the enrollment in the program and establishing constituencies and alliances within the University and with Ascension Health Providence working with colleagues in a spirit of partnership, transparency and fiscal responsibility. The Director will be responsible for recruiting additional faculty and will assist in student recruitment and admissions.

  • Secure professional accreditation from the ARC-PA for the PA program;
  • Hire, supervise, mentor and oversee program personnel including the medical director.
  • Work with the medical director to insure instructional and clinical experiences meet the current standards in patient care and the PA profession;
  • Work closely with Ascension Health Providence in Southfield in the development and organization of the program and to discuss future collaborations;
  • Collaborate with other University units and engage alumni, industry and the profession community;
  • Participate in the design, development and evaluation of the program's curriculum;
  • Identify relevant existing library holdings and needs to support the program;
  • Manage the program's enrollment, advancing strategies for recruitment and retention of students;
  • Facilitate and guide the development of marketing materials;
  • Work with the Advancement Office and the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences in fundraising for the program from both public and private entities and individuals;
  • Represent the program, the College and University effectively in educational, governmental, business, alumni and other public forums.
    ADDITIONAL DUTIES: Engage in strategic planning; assess program and organizational needs. Design strategies to address those needs. Monitor budget and perform compensation, benefits and performance reviews. Prepare communications to employees. Meet with alumni, community leaders and representatives of public and private entities.

QUALIFICATIONS: Essential to the position are proven leadership, administrative and organizational skills, and a commitment to academic excellence and fiscal responsibility. Experience with the PA accreditation process, and the vision and creativity necessary to secure accreditation is important. Enrollment management skills and experiences working and recruiting diverse student populations are necessary. Faculty development, fund- raising, and community and alumni engagement skills are required.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Director must be a NCCPA certified PA or a M.D. or D.O. The successful candidate will hold or is eligible for the appropriate license in Michigan. Administrative and academic experience is highly desirable. He/she should also possess a track record of participation and leadership in professional and academic associations, and sufficient experience to engage the professional community. Must possess exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills.

    Superior planning and organizing ability is required. Ability to comprehend and resolve complex interpersonal and organizational problems is essential. The ability to plan and work independently as well as in teams is essential. Incumbents will possess both strong analytical skills and sound instincts to complement programming and service delivery

    OTHER SKILLS, ABILITIES and QUALIFICATIONS: Individuals should possess significant personnel management, curriculum development, fund raising, instructional, coaching/counseling/conflict resolution, and change management skills. Individuals should also possess the ability to represent the school and university effectively in educational, governmental, business and alumni public forums. Individuals should possess knowledge of leadership concepts and applications, motivation concepts and applications, third-party contract negotiation and management, including development of requests for proposals and knowledge current with emerging trends in education.PI115307148
