Job Description:

Purpose:The Controls Engineer takes the lead for developing, implementing, and supporting part traceability strategy for NA automotive manufacturing plants. This position supports the development and implementation for other manufacturing data collection and data analysis systems.Essential Functions:Provide safe, reliable, ergonomic systems and machines for all supported NSG PlantsConfigure systems and database settings for new cells and parts for traceable contentProgram PLCs, barcode readers, HMIs, Robots, and PCs as necessary to collect traceable data.Modify and upgrade as required existing production equipment.Help develop and maintain cost effective general specifications and standards for machine controls and programming.Coordinate all project controls/electrical activities to ensure that project timing, quality, and cost targets are attainedPerform hands-on programming/debug/troubleshooting of numerous types of automation equipment.Provide analysis, evaluation and review of problems regarding automation, advanced methods and equipment, and material handlingProvide alternative solutions to anticipated or actual technical and/or business-related manufacturing problems.Develop safeguards and improve team member safety through process improvementsConduct system / equipment training for plant and other personnel as required.Provide trouble shooting assistance to production and maintenance team members.Design new equipment or redesign existing equipment, and coordinate its fabrication, assembly, installation, and startupEnsure equipment and layouts are compliant with local and national codes.Responsible for creating and maintaining all written software program instructions.Adherence to NSG/Pilkington Standards of Business Conduct and its Values and PrinciplesOther duties as assigned by managerScope/Dimensions:Interact with multiple levels within the organizationManage projects in 7 manufacturing plantsTop 3 Competencies Needed for Success in the Role:Strategic Thinking Develops strategic plans for their part of the business by setting short and long-term goals and objectivesPassion for Excellence Demonstrates and fosters a sense of urgency, drive and personal commitmentEngages and Inspires Others Works collaboratively wand builds trust to develop enduring working relationships with othersQualifications Required:B.S. in Electrical Engineering / Computer Science Engineering - minimum 3 years of experienceProficiency in PLC programming, robotics, machine vision and CADProblem solving abilities; experience programming ABB or Fanuc robotics; strong PLC/HMI programming skills; power; motors & controls knowledge.Strong computer and network skills and process expertiseExcellent written and verbal communication skills.Open and frank, keen to see things through to completion.Dynamic individual who leads by example.Flexible, understands there is more than one way to accomplish a goal.Able to work as part of a team and have the determination to succeed in a challenging environment.Self-starter and be able to work towards project objectives with minimal supervision.Other Requirements:Allen Bradley RS Logix programmingFamiliarity with PC programming in Visual Basic with MS SQL or similar systemsWilling to travel up to 25%.
