This person would be responsible for all areas of the payroll tax function to ensure compliance with IRS, CRA(Canada Revenue Agency), and provincial and state tax regulations, as well as handling reconciliation of human resource and payroll related G/L and accounting items.Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Legislative & Compliance

  • Research, analyze, and evaluate tax changes for impact to company and employees.
  • Monitor and inform team of policy and/or legal changes to as required to keep payroll organization in compliance with tax rules.
  • Investigate, resolve and respond to tax authority notices and correspondence in a timely manner
  • Responsible for identifying, registering, and administering new payroll taxes as work locations are created
  • Responsible for managing current tax accounts and making updates or closing accounts when locations are closed or moved
  • Maintain state unemployment rates and ensure rates are updated timely.
    Manage Systems
    • Manage outsourcing of tax fulfillment with ADP Smart Compliance
    • Balance internal SAP payroll tax with ADP Smart compliance
    • Utilize BSI Tax Factory Services to monitor and test tax updates
    • Develop and Execute reports within in house SAP payroll / HCM system to analyze pay components from gross to net
    • Partner with third party application developers to direct, test and apply tax configuration changes to on premise ERP system
    • Review and analyze current payroll tax procedures and makes recommendations on process changes
    • Participate in system testing, troubleshooting and problem resolution.
      • Development audits/controls for proper tax set up and reviews
      • Assist with internal and external audits and reporting requests, including providing information, reports and documentation and data analysis as needed.
      • Work directly with accounting, accounts payable and payroll in reconciliation process to balance General Ledger, Payroll totals, and tax filing totals.
        Cyclical Items
        • Responsible for periodic, quarterly and annual US and Canada payroll tax reconciliation for 6 FEINS in 40 states in the US, as well as 2 Canadian entities in 4 provinces. (Heavy presence in Ohio, Indiana, California, and Quebec)
        • W-2 processing and year end balancing
        • Collaborate with team to support year-end processing.Your profileMinimum Requirements:
          • 5+ years' experience with US payroll tax or other Corporate and/or Use Tax experience
          • Experience with multiple FEIN's, Multiple States, and Multiple localities
          • Strong understanding of payroll process flow and Federal, State and Local tax regulations
          • Strong working knowledge of payroll concepts, approved practices and procedures
          • Demonstrated skills in researching issues, troubleshooting and problem resolution.
          • Ability to multi-task, as well as track and meet critical deadlines, and collaborate with team
          • Strong Excel skills
          • Proven record dealing with confidential data using discretion
          • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
            Preferred requirements:
            • Experience with SAP Payroll
            • ADP Smart Compliance experience
